Back in The Saddle Again - So Much For Revenge

Tuesday, Sept. 7

This time it was me who kept rolling into Dan.  One day we'll figure out how to level this thing and we'll get a good night's sleep.  We turned up at the stables on another bright, warm morning.  Dan was a bit quiet.  I was a bit glad.

We were told we'd be referred to by our horses' names.  I was now Misty, which I rather fancied, Dan was Chip and the poor guy who arrived late was now Snaggle (wrangler revenge.)  We were given a headset for the narrated tour and set off to the sounds of Yankee Doodle.
Hittin' the trail
All through what turned out to be a fabulous tour (Chip said it was brilliant and moving and so much better than any other way of seeing the battlefield) there were wonderful Civil War songs like those played on the Ken Burns series.  We even got Ashokan Farewell, my all time favorite, and, for the record, the piece I want played at my funeral which will have you all weeping in the aisles.  The tour ended with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir singing Battle Hymn of the Republic (yes, I cried.)

The hole in the brickwork is from a cannon ball on the first day of battle

The Pennsylvania Monument in the background.  Of the 97,000 Union troops in the battle, 35,000 were from Pennsylvania

Dan went off to do more Civil War stuff in town while I stayed put in my lovely air conditioned RV and napped and blogged and blew fuses.  I can't use my electric kettle or microwave while the a/c is on.  Luckily my neighbor helped me out.  He's an RV pro.  Check out HIS rig. I thought we were living in luxury - this guy has an outdoor flatscreen TV as well as an indoor one.  And how about those slideouts!
Note the palm tree underneath -nice touch!

It's official: I now have trailer envy.

Tomorrow we head to Charlottesville, Virginia, where Thomas Jefferson's Monticello is located.  A stop on the way at the RV dealer to buy a new spare tire (not covered by insurance as it happens so often - ahem.)
