Tuesday, September 21 - Mesa Verde, Colorado
We've seen some interesting road signs along the way. Unfortunately we can't photograph most of them, but I make note of them. They seem to fall into three general categories: religious, political and commercial. Funny about that - you take the three subjects you're not supposed to talk about in polite society, make giant posters about them and place them in prominent positions where people can't avoid seeing them.
As we go along I will make further note of any interesting ones we see, but here are a few of my favorites so far:
Religious
In giant headlines as you're speeding along the interstate:
WARNING! PREPARE TO MEET GOD! (I defy you to not ease off the accelerator pedal)
Political
The picture of Obama and Chavez shaking hands and the headline: End socialism. Vote Republican.
Obama and the Democratic Congress are Destroying our Republic!
Just Vote Them Out!
And the somewhat more cryptic and therefore more ominous:
NOVEMBER'S COMING!
And this:
Oh, Santa Fe - even you?
Commercial
In Memphis, these images were on a billboard to advertise Christian Funeral Services Company with the print: We Provide a Very Dignified and Christian Service

Oh yeah! I think I want to be buried in Memphis.
Your art might suck but your studio doesn't have to.
In Arkansas a sign for The Hog's Breath Grill
And in Texas the billboard lives.
Dan was hoping for a Burma shave sign.
