Itching in All The Wrong Places

Wednesday, September 14

There's a mosquito in the RV.  I don't understand why I can't find it.  It must be the size of a chicken by now if the number of bites on my body are anything to go by.  It was hot last night so I even have one on a bit that doesn't normally see the light of day.  It's going to be very difficult being out in public today. Makes me long for the good old days back in Melbourne when liberal use of aerosol instecticides were actively encouraged.  What I wouldn't give for a can of Mortein right now.  Ask any Aussie about Mortein and they're likely to break into song:
Poor dead Louie,
Louie the fly,
A victim of Mortein
Mor-teeeeeein.

Louie the fly is an advertising icon. He's been around for 50 years   Unlike the rest of us, he seems to get better looking as he ages.

"He's bad and mean and mighty unclean, Afraid of no one!  Except the man with the can Mortein.  Mor-teeeein."

Of course now the cans and the website come with all sorts of warning labels about where not to spray it - food preparation areas, dining rooms, baby rooms, around pets and birds ... but I remember Mum, who, being Canadian, had perhaps a less sanguine approach to flies, regularly dive bombing every room in the house, ESPECIALLY the kitchen, in clouds of Mortein.  Woe betide anyone who took too long closing a door.  "You've let a fly in!" and out would come the can again.  We must have inhaled and eaten gallons of the stuff.

At least there aren't flies like Louie in America.  But there are mozzies, including the very fat one that must be waddling around this RV somewhere, too heavy for lift off.
